Machining Mechanic (m/f)
Training period: 3.5 years
Machining Mechanics are specialists in the production of high-precision metal components and, if required, manufacture to within a thousandth of a millimeter. They work in the field of metal-cutting production and are responsible for operating computer-controlled turning, milling and grinding machines. Their field of activity includes the planning, programming and production of highly complex components of exacting quality. They monitor and analyze the manufacturing processes and ensure that they run smoothly.
At the beginning of the training, the focus is on manual and mechanical, conventional metal cutting, with a constant focus on the requirements for quality and dimensional accuracy. Skills and knowledge in materials engineering, the correct selection and application of various test and measuring equipment, cutting materials, cutting values and tools will be taught.
Already in the first year of training, participants start programming and handling CNC-controlled machines as part of CNC production in our training workshop.
Here the Machining Mechanics learn on high-quality, technologically sophisticated CNC lathes and milling machines. Within the framework of training projects as well as on the basis of real production orders, they accompany the process from checking the technical drawing, planning the work steps and tools, programming in the virtual space with subsequent equipping of the machine with tools, manufacturing of the parts with quality assurance up to completion of the order.
From the middle of the second year of training, they will be working in various areas of production, including quality control on 3D measuring machines, the hardening shop and work preparation. This is accompanied by specialist courses on topics such as control technology, hoisting and transporting loads and occupational safety.
WORKING AREAS of our Machining Mechanics are predominantly in the areas of parts production such as CNC turning,
milling or grinding, gear manufacturing, hardening shop, on machining centers or in the measuring rooms. They usually work in 2-shift operation.
REQUIREMENTS include mathematical understanding, logical and spatial thinking, reliability, and responsible economic action. Equally important are willingness to learn, stamina and concentration, flexibility and diligence.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: Setup of customer machines in the setup department; execution of turning tests for customers in the demonstration center area; participation in engineering fairs as machine operators.
FURTHER QUALIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES: Master Craftsman; Mechanical Technician; Business Economist; Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.).
Subsequent fields of activity: Setup engineer in technical sales or consultant in the area of tool holders; work planner in work preparation; project supervisor for automation topics or implementation of new production technologies; integration of Industry 4.0 topics; production controller; reorientation into commercial areas such as inventory management as technical purchaser.
